About the Game
It’s not just what’s in your hand: it’s how you play it. Cribbage is a game of pegs and cards that demands both skill and luck.
Cribbage is a challenging card game for two, three, or four players. The large role of luck in the game provides the opportunity for even a new player to beat a veteran after only a couple games. However, long-term success is only guaranteed through experience. This makes for an involving game at any skill level.

The objective is to score 121 points. Every player discards into the crib (an extra hand) 2 cards (only 1 card is discarded in 3 or 4 player games) from their hand. The dealer gets to score the crib as well as his hand at the end of play. The crib is scored identically to a normal hand.
Points are scored by getting specific combinations of cards in your hand and including the card that is turned face up on the deck. The following are the scoring combinations:
- any number of cards totaling 15 (2 points)
- a run of 3 or more consecutive cards (ex. 3-4-5) which do not have to be in the same suit (3-card run: 3 pts, 4-card runs: 4 pts, 5-card runs: 5 pts)
- all cards in your hand are the same suit (4 pts), 5 pts if the face up card is also that suit
- jack in your hand of the same suit as the face up card (1 pt)
After cards have been discarded into the crib, the deck is cut and play begins with the player to the left of the dealer. Each player in turn plays one card at a time until no one can play a card without the total exceeding 31. At this point, the played cards are turned face-down and play resumes at 0.
Points are also scored during play. If one of the above combinations is made with the cards played, whomever played the most recent card gets the points. When playing, if a player cannot play a card without bringing the total over 31, the last player to play scores 1 pt. If the total reaches 31, the last player to play scores 2 pts.
After all cards have been played, each player scores their hand starting with the player to the left of the dealer. The dealer scores their hand first then the crib. If you have manual scoring enabled and you incorrectly score you hand, one of your opponents will claim the extra (or over) points. The next round is then dealt by the player to the left of the dealer.
